Mathematical economics research assistant

Work: Participate in the design of mathematical standards for public policy, such as rules for merger review.  Help in creating examples, simplifying mathematical expressions, checking and refining proofs, producing graphical illustrations of mathematical expressions and building tables. Run computational experiments to verify results and assist in their presentation.

 

Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate. Strong mathematical background; engineering, science, mathematics or mathematically-inclined economics concentration. Top grades (3.7+) in mathematical curriculum. Knowledge of or ability to learn quickly LaTeX, Mathematica and MatLab. Interest in potentially pursuing economics further.

 

Pay: $15 an hour for undergraduates, $20 an hour for graduates. Opportunity to earn a letter of recommendation for graduate school and potentially to co-author a paper. Previous research assistants co-authored papers and a book and have gone on to graduate school at MIT, UPenn and the Stanford GSB.

 

Hours and duration: Approximately 10 hours a week, on average, for the entire school year until mid-May. Schedule flexibility possible.

Mathematical economics transcription and writing research assistant

Work: Transcribe mathematics developed by the authors into LaTeX.  Work with the authors on a white board to digest and organize their work and turn it into high-quality LaTeX code.  Assist in the organization of notation and layout of papers, as well as in the style of writing

 

Qualifications: Undergraduate preferred. Strong computational background; computer science major or other strongly computational discipline. Thorough knowledge of, or ability to quickly master, LaTeX. Top grades (3.7+) in relevant classes. Interest in potentially pursuing economics further.
